How to choose a well pump?

How to choose a well pump?
The question of choosing a pump for a well is relevant both for a private household with no centralized water supply and for a large industrial facility. Depending on the needs of the water user, the pump must satisfy requests for the supply volume and water quality, the pressure created in the water supply, the ability to cover the needs during normal operation.

The following types of pumps are used for artesian wells:

- superficial;

- immersion. Among them: screw, vibration, vortex and centrifugal-section.

How to choose the type of well pump?
First of all, it is necessary to proceed from the needs of the business, is the pump able to supply the required amount of water according to its technical parameters? It is necessary to take into account the height to which the water must be raised, the pressure that must be in the water supply. Water can be intended for watering/irrigation, household or communal water use, for communal, industrial or private use with, accordingly, different requirements for cleanliness.

Surface pumps are used in private households, they are installed near wells or above the surface. Such pumps can supply up to 3.5 cubic meters of liquid per hour, and have a small (up to 40-50 m) head.

Disadvantages of use: noisy, can freeze, sensitive to temperature changes, getting moisture on the pump or engine, require specific conditions of use (some room or equipped area is required where they will be protected from water, direct sunlight, etc.).

For the needs of industrial, communal and other large farms, it is necessary to choose among submersible pumps with higher productivity.

We begin with the analysis of the well
When choosing a pump, pay attention to the parameters of the well: diameter, water level (static and dynamic), flow rate of the well. This information must be specified by drilling specialists in the well's passport. We conclude how much water can be supplied in a certain time, which pressure is required.

Features of different pumps
We determine the power of the pump, which will allow us to raise the required amount of water. So, centrifugal-section (centrifugal multi-section) pumps can supply from 1 to 500 cubic meters of water per hour to a height of up to 300 m, vortex pumps supply water at 70-80 m (up to 100 m) and have a small water intake (suitable for small farms) .

Vortex pumps are immersed in a well (in water), they are waterproof, self-cooling, and do not make a lot of noise.

Vibrating and screw pumps are budget options for limited use.

Vibrating pumps are the cheapest well submersible pumps. Their main drawback is that due to the specifics of their work, they harm the well (they create vibrations that cause the water to become muddy and destroy the mine). Can be used in private households, and if the user does not have requirements for water quality (example: watering the garden).

Screw pumps are volumetric type pumps (water rises due to the rotation of the screw). They are intended for supplying contaminated (or very dirty) water that rises with all suspensions. If there are requirements for water quality, you will have to purchase additional filters, with which the price of screw pumps will rise to the level of centrifugal or vortex pumps.

Selection of pumps for enterprises
Therefore, the choice of large industrial enterprises or utilities is limited to centrifugal-section pumps, which differ in characteristics depending on the material and technical execution. Centrifugal section pumps are suitable for any wells (diameter from 4 inches to 12), can give high pressure for water intake up to 500 cubic meters per hour due to multi-section. Their only "disadvantage" is the price (the more sections, the more expensive they are).

To install the pump, you need to contact specialists. Equipment must be installed in accordance with the pump's passport and special instructions. Electricity must be installed in advance, all preparatory work must be done before the pump gets to the well (so that it does not have to be removed and redone). It is necessary to ensure that the pump does not get stuck in the mine, so that in the event of failure, it is not necessary to close the well.

How to choose a supplier and brand?
In addition to the characteristics of the pump itself, we advise you to pay attention to the manufacturer and supplier, whether they have certificates of conformity and other permits, whether they provide a guarantee and what is the duration of the guarantee period (six months, a year or two), what is the material performance of the pumps.

Reliable suppliers who sell quality pumps are usually noted for quality service and maintenance (quickly responding to customer requests, offering a high level of service). The lower the quality of the product, the more difficult it is to provide a high level of service due to the large number of appeals and warranty failures.

Energy efficiency of pumps is an important economic factor
When calculating the economy of an industrial unit, it is necessary to take into account the difference in energy efficiency of pumps from different manufacturers. At the same time, the electricity consumption of energy-efficient pumps is lower than that of conventional pumps. At the same time, the electricity consumption of energy-efficient pumps is lower than that of conventional pumps. This is affected by the performance quality of both the pump itself and the engine.

Borehole pumps of the Ekvives company
An example of energy-efficient pumps is Ekvives pumps with efficient hydraulic performance (quality material, polished, centered, correctly installed components, pumps have a good margin of safety) and quality German Ledermann electric motors (with correct winding, correctly centered moving parts, well lubricated bearings, etc.). The effect of use is a saving of 5-15% of electricity compared to conventional pumps.

Reference: "Ekvives" company has been engaged in the production and sale of industrial equipment (electric motors, generators, pumps) for more than 24 years. The company's well pumps are equipped with electric motors from the German partner company Ledermann. The company's clients include Kyivvodokanal, Mykolaivvodokanal, and Ivano-Frankivskvodokanal.

The range of pumps includes models of 4-inch (can deliver from 1 to 12 cubic m at a height of up to 150 m), 6,8,9,10-inch stainless steel pumps (up to 320 cubic m at a height of up to 300 m), cast iron pumps from 8 to 12 inches (up to 500 cubic meters at a height of up to 200-300 meters).
